ATV headlight bulbs
« on: Nov 21, 2011, 09:36 AM »
I have a '94 Kodiak 400 and the headlight isn't as bright as I would like...are there aftermarket "super bright" bulbs available? Don't wanna spend the $ on a comletely different assembly or those light bars...just lookin' for a bulb. Thanx.

You can always get one of those clamp on spotlights that plug into the 12V accessory outlet. They look like they would work pretty well.

Thanks Surf...I get a little nervous when out on the ice in the dark and can only see about 15' in front of me...not good enough for me anyway.

Bring the old bulb out of your ATV into your favorite auto parts store and match up the base plug style. Most ATV and Snowmobile headlights are just standard automotive bulbs, then you can have your pick of the output and the prices are usually much cheaper as well.

check out ddm tuning - they make HID kits that draw less than the factory lights and put out about triple the light. I have them in my atv, jeep and race car. after using them i'll never run factory lights again. $40 for the atv setup in my honda, i believe its h6m bulb

You can purchase a 35 watt HID conversion kit for your ATV or snowmobile.
Check these guys out: http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-HID-Kit-Slim-Ballast-35W-or-55W
When picking a colour temp keep it low (think 3000k or 4500k) as they will be brighter and will have more yellow in the beam that helps with depth perception in snow allowing you to better see the bumps and dips in the snow.

All the cool kids that are running those high colour temp HID's that are blue in colour are wasting their $$$ as the light they throw is just a fraction of what the lower colour temp bulbs throw.

Stay away from the 55 watt kits for your application as they will throw too much glare and use too much power and run too hot in the smaller lights on an atv.
You will also need one of their relay harnesses so as not to draw too much power through the stock harness.
