The Mile 12-29-11

Fished the Mile yesterday. Caught seven. Largest was 21", just under 5 lbs. Was windy and was only blown off the hole once before I had to anchor down. Surprisingly enough I
sat on the same hole from dawn to dusk which I've never done before. Finally seeing some big trout. The fish pictured is in the smoker. The stomach content had bugs that were smaller
than scuds but thinner. Haven't seen these before but will keep an eye out for them. Tight lines.

Nice fish.  How do you like the "straight-line" rig for trout?  Is that just one of your spare fly-reels?

That's one of two Okuma Sanibel 5/6 wt. reels I bought on closeout specifically to try for icing.  It's a very nice reel. I absolutely love the straight line rig for trout. I don't get the line twist like I was,
using a spinning reel with a light drag. Makes a big difference when catching larger trout.

Geez nice fish. I fished there yesterday on the north side and I didn't see a single fish on the flasher.

That fish is a Bee-yut!  Well done.

Were those bugs like the tiny worms that you find in the fish you catch off of Stoll?  The aquatic annelids?  Or were they really some type of shrimp?  Too bad you didn't take a photo of them.

Also good idea with the fly reel.  I may have to try one on a fly rod someday although I usually don't get too much twist in the line.  Something for me to keep in mind.

I'll be out there tomorrow and I'm sure I'll be anchored down ASAP - assuming that I'm not fighting a 30 mph head wind to get to my spot!  LOL.

The bugs weren't worms. They had legs and a tail. Shaped like a slender earwig.

Nice work coboy a 7 fish day at 11 Mile is a solid performance. It took a while to find the fish this year if _colorado has a good report tomorrow we may be on to a pattern.

Thanks for the report.
