Aqua Vu assistance please!
« on: Jan 23, 2005, 08:55 AM »
Looking for a little assistance.  I just received an aqua vu scout for christmas.....Took it out Fri and Sat for the first time.....it worked fine in shallow water but I had some trouble at 20 ft plus being able to "see".....I've got a vex and was wondering if anyone out there could tell me how they use their vu along with their vex.....do you set if up close to your bait?  Lastly what accessories do you think are critical???  I'm looking at the mopod but hate to drop the $100 if it's not worth it......Thanks in advance!

Try adjusting your brightness, if tat doesnt work, turn on the LED lights. I bought the non-motorized pod and love it, i cant really see the need for a motorized one.

I agree the non motorized ice pod is critical and its only gonna cost ya about 15$.  I'm sure the motorized one is cool to, but very expensive

can you adjust brigtness on a scout??

as for my aqua-vu (mc-120), if i can't see, and its less than 100 feet, then the water is just too murky - the multi-color lights that i have on my unit SUCK, they just scare away fish, and make seeing anything more than 1' away impossible.

for me, normal water clarity in the ponds that i fish isnt great, so i usually set the camera up about 30" from the jig...but i have had to go as close as 1'...if the water is any dirtier than that, i just pull the camera up.

Bigred, you can change those lights out if you have some mechanical skills. The key is patiance.
Or take it to a dealer and they will do it, also get the replacement bulbs for it there too.

Lance,

Yes.  There is a brightness as well as contrast knob on the Scout.

I tested out my scout today, it works like a charm! There is a contrast control, and and LED output control that will control the intensity of the invisible infared lights. One thing, when the battery starts going dead, you dont see much, the screen acts likt the brightness of contrast is set too high. The only drawback of the scout, is the battery, 4.5 hours use time on it not enough, and swapping out to another battery isnt real easy to do. I use the ice pod, and cut 2 holes, about 3 feet from each other. The hole inside the shanty is for the Vexilar, the hole outside is for the aqua vu. I dont like setting the cam too close to the hole for the vex/fish catching hole, otherwise the fish will get tangled on the aqua vu cord! The aqua vu is a great learning tool, I like the unit alot.

We've also had alot of Mopods returned to Gander.  They are terribly unreliable, & way too expensive.  Kingfshr16 was right, the regular tripod is great.

Always wear clean underwear, cuz ya never know when the paramedics are gonna have to cut your pants off.

Make sure your video camera (VC) has a video "in".  Alot of cameras have the video "out", but not the "in".

What I did to rule out a problem with the VC  was hook up the cable from video "in" on the VC to video "out" on my VCR and tried to capture footage from the TV.  If this works for you, then there is a problem with connecting to the monitor.

Hope this helps!

YES!!! the multi-color lights scare the bejesus out of fish...i have never, i repeat NEVER EVER had a fish come in AND BITE MY JIG with the lights on...im talking hours of fishing time...turn the light off and the fish come back in

the infrared light however does not scare fish, and actually works better than the mult-color lights in my experience.
