Fish trap Scout question
« on: Nov 06, 2011, 07:43 PM »
I just bought a replacement tent for my 10 (or so) year old Scout. My old tent was fine but I wanted one with a door.
My old tent fastened to the sled with bolts through grommeted holes in the tent fabric.

The new tents fasten to the sled by a U-shaped molding that you press over the tent fabric and the lower edge of the sled base. You then secure the molding in place with self-tapping metal screws.

The problem is, I didn't know the new tents came without grommets, and didn't come with the molding. The molding is only $10, but the shipping is almost $12 additional. $22 for a few lousy pieces of plastic!

Anyone have any ideas on where I could find some U-shaped plastic strips that I could use instead of the factory item?
Thanks.

You could get it stretched on where you want it, mark where you need grommets and put some it. Or mark it, have a hem sewed around the bottom and just screw through the hem.

Maybe your local hardware, home depot or lowes

There is a post in a flipover thread where they used binder clips to attach the tent to the tub.

Home Depot should have the grommets. Bought some there and did this to my one man a few years back.

I already have grommets but I was hoping someone could tell me where to find plastic U-molding like the current versions of the scout use. I have this feeling I've seen something like that before but can't figure out where I saw it, or what it would be used for. If I knew another use for something like that I could probably figure out where to get some.
Thanks for the replies already given.
