Ice Fishing In Banff Area

I will be heading out to Banff area around Dec 20th and I was wondering about a place for some Ice Fishing with My boy.  I have all my own gear so i would like to avoid an outfitter if Poss.  Is there a lake near town that we could spend a day or two on and see a little action ? 

Also I am from Sask. so I know I need an AB permit but is there anything else I need to know ? Anyone fished on "Spray lake" I can see a bunch of videos on it but nothing from recent ?

Don't need monsters just some action for me and "the Boy"

HEAD'S UP!!
if you're within National Parks borders you will need the special Parks Fishing License.
find a tackle shop in town to buy the license and the staff there will likely point you in the right direction for some ice action too.
kill 2 birds with one stone!!!

Heads Up!!!!!
There is no ice fishing allowed in BNP, so dont buy that license.
Spray is where you wanna go.

Yeah that was what i thought too Ron.  There will be enough ice and all that by say the 20th of December ? just walking on of course.  also is it too windy for my portable up there ?

what kind of portable are you talking about?....just bring ice screws to hold er down if windy...have fun!
