problems with my shanty..
« on: Aug 23, 2011, 08:15 AM »
...that would adhere to poly-tarp material?. Looking to brighten up the interior of my pop-up with some white paint that would better reflect the lighting. I'm thinking that an enamel based exterior would work and could possibly take the putting up and down without cracking too much...and spray paint is out of the question at this point as it would be difficult to do. Any thoughts?

The only thing I would try would be Krylon Fusion, made for plastic. I know you don't want spray paint, but I would think most anything else is gonna flake off, or degrade the tarp. Just a thought.

The only paint that comes to mind is Parma Faskolor. It sticks well to lexan, cloth, metal, wood and a lot of other materials and is flexible as well as fuel proof. Its water based so cleanup is easy and it doesn't react negatively to certain materials like solvent based paints. You will need an airbrush, small HVLP gun or some sort of aerosol sprayer to apply it best. I'm sure you could brush it on also but I always used an airbrush. It is ready to shoot right out of the bottle but at higher than normal air pressure (I used 30-35psi) and there are no fumes so you can paint inside. You can get it at hobby shops or order it online from many places like http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDD11&P=7

1/2 inch plywood, if you want thin and light weight go with 5.2mm.

I would go with 3/8 plywood and paint.

I've had the same 3/8" OSB on mine for 5 years and other than a little touch up paint I have had no problems

For outside on a hardside I would go with stain. It penetrates like paint doesn't (which is why you usually need a second coat) and it doesn't flake.

It's a little more pricey, but worth it to preserve the wood better.
