Missed out on allot of icefishin this year and iceout isn't to far away. Looks like some good cold whether is moving in next week, hope the ice holds up till it gets here.

Worst year for me getting on the ice so I am trying get out as much as possible before it ends. Went to Nyona Wed and there was still 12", edges where still good from the N parking area. The crappy where biting after dark(15FOW) but I only had spikes and beemoths. Since Malones was not open this year I didn't have any minnows, think I may have caught my limit if I had minnows, got 10, missed allot, lost a few at the hole.

THinking about going to Bass lake Friday mourn or mid-day and fishing late. I am wanting to fish out from the DNR parking, is the edges still ok, how thick is the ice? I plan on fishing for gills till dark then eyes after dark. Hopefully others will be out after dark, don't like to be out by self with ice condition we have now. Can't find my spud bar,grrrr... So I have nothing to check the ice as I walk. Hows the gill/eye bite been out from the DNR parking?

I got to Nyona late and didn't think I would stay after dark so I didn't get any minnows there. Wished I had since I stayed late.

Since the ice at Bass is not good, found that out from another thread, I probably will just go to Nyona Friday. I am wanting to catch gills during the day and I never see to many caught at Maxi so I will pass on there. At least where I fish, out from the ramp I don't.

I love the reports from people that havent been out on the lake..Take them with a grain of salt.
Was out last night parked my truck on the ice at the pumphouse (thats right on the ice) So if yer falling in i would like to know were your fishing. As of last night the ice is still 16 inches. Will be out tonight. The bite slowed for me where i am fishing ever since the full moon showed up..With no snow its nice and bright down there for them..Eyes must be hunting some were else.I think i will change it up today and move.
I'm standing right next to you and you don't even know it.

Now I am lost on the ice condition...The link below a guy says, "Went lastnight, ice is done.  6 inches of bad ice when we left.  I went through to my knees twice"

Bass lakes unsafe right now  :o was out the other night had a solid 12 inches, ice came up in nice shavings too. Their are a few spots where the lake receives a good amount of run off so i can see going through there but as of most of the lake should be ok, think tonight should be good to go. I know I'm going to head out with a few buddies after work for one last hooraah. The other night was slow only iced one eye lost another and had 4 other flags where they took a couple feet and dropped it. My trip setting is extremely light. I use small hooks 6 lbs line and my spools are so smooth a BB size slit shot will make it spin till the weight hits the ground. The minnows had teeth marks and punchier holes so i know they were walleye, I'm guessing little ones. I fish for walleyes a lot through the ice and that was the worst flag to catch ratio I've ever had. has anyone else been seeing this on Bass this year?

Its hard to believe that around the pumpstation there was 16", enough to hold a truck. And the area where the shanty sank has thin or rotten ice enough for the shanty to break the ice.

No doubt the wood shanty was air tight and heated up in the sun, thats probably why it sank. Anyone with a small wood shed, knows that even in cold weather the inside air will warm up if its a sunny day. So I imagine it had no vents, the inside warmed up, which made a hot or warm spot and melted the ice causeing it to sink. Anyone trying to venture out on Bass lake. Make sure you take a spub bar, wear a life vest, and have a set of hand spikes to pull yourself out in you fall in.

Ice is going by the hour. Talked to a fried who fished eagle creek this morn. Said ice was still 8 inches in front of ramp at sunup. When he came off at lunch, he was scared. Said he dropped his spud bar thru. A lot of warm run off running under the ice.  Might as well start working to get boat ready to go. Fish is better from the store than the grave.
