Smelt in Woodbury
« on: Feb 17, 2011, 11:28 AM »
Hi guys, I've seen some people using smelt in Woodbury lake and I have caught some there occassionally in the past, but can't seem to catch them steady, not looking for someones secret spot, but a point in the right direction for some quick and desirable bait.  Thanks

I've fished woodbury alot and only caught a few smelt in the last 10 yrs. If people have smelt on their tip ups on woodbury they might have got a couple but pretty good chance they are coming from somewhere else illegaly.

Maybe so, but I jigged up about a dozen today, put them on my tip ups and ended up with two nice browns! The smelt are in there, but by no means in there thick!!

I have spent most of my ice fishing outings on Woodbury. I fish it different than most evryone else out there. On my most successful outing I caught at least 30 - 40 smelt. It is my belief from what I have seen that Woodbury has a healthy smelt population. For those interested, try the deeper parts of the lake. I usually get them 35 ft down or deeper.
