Shanty on Lake Champlain
« on: Feb 14, 2011, 11:16 AM »
This is first year with a home made shanty out on the ice.  Have it up by Keeler bay.  When do most people start removing them?... with this much snow on the ice, and warmer weather coming, im curious if I have anything to worry about.

Thanks in advance.

I keep mine on the lake till march. Then pull it when the ice starts to honey comb. Last year it was right around march 9th

On Page 56, in the Vermont 2011 Hunting, Fishing & Trapping Laws and Guide, your Ice Shanty, should be taken off the ice, before, the last Sunday in March, whichever comes first. ;D  Last day, would be Sunday, which is this year:  27 March 2011. ;D

Yup, that is funny.  I doubt, you can keep your ice shanty that late, on Lake Champlain, or even the Inland Lakes and Ponds, this year. ;D

The first thing they say is before the ice becomes unsafe or loses its ability to support the fishing house out of the water or before the last sunday in march witch ever comes first.
