Just got a 6" lazer and retired my 8" mora, holy crap what a difference. I don't mind drilling through 14" of ice now. I am truly amazed.

My SM Lazer is goin on 7 years, on the original blades.  Just keep it out of sand, mud and old holes. Always make a new hole, don't drop it, don't bang it.  Maybe the most important thing, don't let anyone use it, ha.    I think my arms have shrunk.     ;)2

I already let my brother-in-law use it under my close supervision. Only in hopes that he goes and buys his own....

Ha, I know what you mean Allen, mine is also a 6" and I have yet to wedge a fish in the hole, but I'm hoping.    :roflmao:

You may know that mora owners think ya need to bang the auger on the ice to get it started, ha.   Yikes !     :woot:

Something I found about most augers, don't lift by that top palm grip, ha. Almost lost the keeper washer down the ice hole.

Funny you say that, I was one of those that was starting to think I needed to bang my mora to get it to start. The blades are sharp it just doesn't cut ice well, fingers it will cut just fine though  >:(

I began a few years back with a spud for making ice holes, it came off the beaver line.  A neighbor said , Oh you ice fish, come over and get this deadly thing away from all my kids. She said it didn't have a cover and was in a small utility trailer. There was also 18" of snow on it,ha. With much care and caution, I dug it out. Wow,  a brand new sharp Mora 8". The second time out I played "logger" using an axe for an indentation to start the grrrr!, thing. So glad I sprung for a Lazer, with Swedish blades, as the China's dull quickly.    Good luck.    Oh, do you fish the Sauk ?

I had an 8 inch mora. After cutting 2 holes with it in a foot of ice that was the end of that. I sold it to a friend and got a 6 inch lazer. Best thing i ever did. We were on 15 or 16 inches of ice last week and it went through it with ease.

I am very happy with my 8" lazer. Will watch for a 6" too. Working on figuring out a set of offset handles. Be as good as the nils then. Cheaper to get blades sharpened and cheaper to replace blades.  A real upgrade from a mora too.   Steve

Just be careful about buying Lazers. Once you start ...
Now I have a 4", two 5", a 6", and a 7". I still have my 8" Mora but it just stays in the basement all the time.

Cant wait to replace my 10 yr. + 6" Lazer w/ Nils or Finbore. Handle knob imploded, paint's worn off auger & is rusty. On 5th set of swedish blades.  Great when new, just doesn't age well.

My drill died after several years on ice, gotta get another cordless rig!

I have the 5 inch lazer. It's sweet!  My 8 inch mora and nils rarely get used now.   It's almost too easy.
