here in newaygo MI we have layered ice like ive never seen it .... 2 inches ice on top, then 6 inches of slush( which you can just press the auger thru without turning ), then 8 of ice that cuts way too easy (soft)....so we pulled the large shack to shore on saturday till it gets more solid or worse......the small shack on another lake I left hoping for best ( I will not need help moving that one if ice takes a turn for the worst real fast).....

Isn't Dam to Dam this weekend?? I was going to participate but my mom said they have 3 feet of snow up there, can't be too great out on Croton/Hardy?

Just back from my lake that was slushy yesterday. All paths and footprints were frozen today and a little tricky getting through that. I ventured to some new spots to drill some holes and didn't encounter any soupy stuff. It was brutal getting out there but not bad in the fishtrap. Kept 16 gills.

I am done talking about slush, even though it will be back.

No, going to get nothing but worse.  Only a week or 2 of safe ice left.  Get out now while you still can.

Last time I looked the date was Feb 8.
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.

Will the slush freeze?....well I sure hope so. Traveled light last Sunday morning at Gull with the jet sled jr. only hauling my gear and on foot looking for perch. Some spots had 6 inches or more of slush and some spots you could walk on and others had 12 inches of snow or more to walk through. Set a couple of tip-ups out about 150 yards from where i was jigging....made use of snowmobile tracks someone left to travel to them....bonus. Went pass one slushy spot and there was a good size hole with water going threw it like a toilet flushing!

My perdiction...... it will freeze up some........please!
