Norton Pond
« on: Feb 04, 2011, 08:33 PM »
Been readin' the forums for a few years now, but finally signed up!

Headn' up to Norton to try for some Northerns.  Slow season so far for trout, so we're switchin' up our game.  Anyone had any luck there this season?

Deep snow and slop is the pits...

Have a buddy up there this weekend.  He tried to make it out to his shack on his sled yesterday morning and there was too much slop to get to the shack.  He got slushed in and it took him almost 2 hours to get off the ice.  I would plan on fishing really close to the boat launch.

Gee, if you can't even take your skidoo out on the ice, then things are really bad.  I haven't fished Norton Pond for years.  It has alot of old dead wood on the bottom, which I do remember.

followed his tracks for a while, but soon realized it was a poor decision.  ended up fishing near a shanty that was just off of a somewhat recently plowed road.  not much ice under the slop, 4-6".

forgot my snowshoes too, so needless to say it was a flipppin' heck of a time walkin to my traps!

I would not be comfortable fishing on 4-6" of ice under all this snow and slush!!!

I fished it first weekend on 9 inches. Idk about 4 to 6. Sounds a little off to me. But I did catch a 11foot log. Thought I had a giant on. Don't worry though I threw it back for others to enjoy in the future.

probably is a little off... but its not as thick as i woulda thought. tough to get a exact measurement w/ the slop and snow...
