Frabil 27" Quicktip combo
« on: Sep 12, 2011, 12:08 PM »
I purchased Frabil 27" Quicktip combo last season.  I love the rod, but the reel irritates me way too often.  Seems like every time I take my eye off of it, it starts winding the line on the drag adjustment knob.  Then  it falls off and makes an awful tangled mess and usually end up cutting line off to correct it.  This gets real aggravating, especially when my Vex is flashing fish below me.  Does anyone else have problems with this reel?  I've been thinking about getting a new reel for it.  What micro reel have you had good results with?  I have a Pflueger President on my 5 foot ultralight rod, Which I really like because it works so well, but I'm thinking it might be slightly large for this jigging pole.  I see Pflueger makes a microspin.  anyone have any experience with this reel?  Thanks for the input.

It depends on what size president reel you are talking about. I have the smallest president reel available and it is the perfect size for icefishing rods. I know what you mean about the reel. I pretty much dislike all combo stock reels as they are all pretty much crap.

My President is the 6730, which I believe is the 2nd smallest - "Lightweight".  It seems large for a jigging pole.

I use the 26" QT Bro. series. This combos have the Bro series reel on them that is 5 bearing and has a fold up handle that is really nice for  it makes the setup really compact. The reel is really a nice reel for the money. There cheaper version is just that. I have three of the Bro. combo setups and for the money IMO u can not beat them.
 Good Luck!
