marcum 620 underwater camera
« on: Jan 19, 2011, 03:31 PM »
I know I should hzve posted this before I pulled the financial trigger on a camera LOL BUT I ordered a new marcum 620 today and cant wait to get it. I had a aqua view years ago as I didnt use it much but cameras have come along way since than so I will give her a go again. I liked using mine more for scouting structure than anything. Anyone else have one of these cameras or have experience with it? thanks in advance!!!

My wife just bought one two days ago.  Hopefully we'll get a chance to try it out this weekend.  I've read a lot of post from people who have had Aqua Vu's and are switching to Marcum because they are much better.  They should be plenty clear, the other night we turned off all the lights in the house so it's pitch black and turned the camera on.  She could see me clear as day about 25-30 feet away.

I have one of the first Aqua view models made. What kind of Improvements has marcum made over the older AV models like mine. I always thought a wide angle lense and a lense that allows you to see the actual size of the fish would be big Improvements. Mine shows the fish well enough just hard to judge size and a wider view at 4' would help.

The marcum also has alot of cool new techinal features that I actaully know nothing about ;D

Although my old one has a small screen, It shows how the fish are reacting to the bait. Thats probably the most important thing,It also runs 10 hrs on a charge. I've fished with people using bigger newer models that went dead before it was time to pack it up. How long will the marcum run on a charge? I'm sure It's a good unit, just looking for the features that would make me want to upgrade.

here is their video for the 620 that I just bought.....It has more than a few advances over my old aqua that I had......Life changing? no but better quality viewing? yes

Remember I dont have a camera as I sold mine a few years ago...If I still had it I wouldnt be upgrading...But from a dead stop this unit looks pretty awesome!

esox, or anyone that  owns a marcum 620 camera,

Does your stabilizing fin snap in place securly? Mine seems to kind of "hang" in place... I think even dropping it on the bottom would cause it to pop out and its even bent when in place like it isnt settin in correctly? any input or just go with it?

I have the same type as you but there is a trolling fin (stabilizing fin) that is included. Its black and attaches to the back of the camera.........

I think the fin on my 620 is used for shallow water (manual)..vertical instead of horizonal..just got the camera, only used it once...on mine where you loop the cord into the fin, groove seems to be to small, might have to ream it out a little...

I used my marcum to day for the first time....awesome! It is som much clearer than my old aqua view. I was whitefishing in aprox 40 fow and could see clear as day. I was out for 7 hours and it was still running strong. Not sure how much battery was actually left but it was on for 7 hrs straight today and it was sitting right in the snow not on a shelf in a heated shack.....Really impressed with it but I knew I would be being that is a marcum product....

I didnt get the auto panner as I seen some bad reviews on cabelas or at least I think it was cabelas that I seen the bad reviews on..I will give them a while to get the kinks worked out. When I was at fleet farm the other day they had alot of them repacked/taped up like they were returned and put back on the shelf? I am using a cheap thing that works ok for now.

I tried outside today..no luck..it did not work at all..did not change any setting when I tried it ..hope it works because I fish the shallow back waters of the mississippi 90% of time..I did try the settings on the lights, inside of tent..did not see any difference in the picture at all..it was cloudy today no glare from the sun..

We had the same issue last weekend.  It worked great in the shack but the screen was black in the sun.  We read the manual and apparently there is a screen brightness control we didn't try adjusting.  We'll try cranking that up to see if we can see the screen in the sunlight.  If not, back to Cabelas we go.  No sense having a $400 camera if you can only use it inside.

Did you have your sunglasses on when you were outside?  Polarized sun glasses and LCD monitors do not work well.  Depending on the orientation of the polarization on the sunglasses they will make the screen appear black, then if you rotate the sunglasses 90 degrees you can see the screen fine.  You can try it on your computer monitor...

I have used mine outiside while trying to find my bait on the screen....Couldnt see a damn thing. I could see well enough to barely find my bait but it was tough. In the shack its great.....I fish in a shack 95% of the time and the other 5% I will be using a flasher so I am not concerned. I love this camera so far.

battery life-We started at 730 this morning and shut her down at 430 pm...The pic was as nice but was usable so I am assuming that the batteries were going dead.....9hrs of run time and it was still going.

After one use for about 4 hours we determined this morning the camera was full of water, completely fried >:(  Off to Cabelas to get another.  Hopefully it was a fluke as Marcum generally has pretty good products.

Is there any camera that can be seen outside without some kind of a cover? My last aquaview was even worse than my new marcum...Even if there is it doesnt matter to me as I am always in a shack

Thats what I mean..The camera needs a sun screen.. On its own none of them work well.....

I was under the impression Marcum was advertising the 620's as having no need for a sunshade.  Even in the shade it didn't work though.  We completely covered the screen with a jet sled and still were not able to see anything.  It does look great in the shack but we don't fish in a shack all the time.  Ours may get returned then if a lot of other people are seeing this same thing.

I'm kind of dissappointed.  We got the Marcum because there were lots of people on Iceshanty saying they've had better luck with them than Aqua Vu.  Now that we bought one it seems like everyone is saying the don't work outside ???

So, Chilly is my husband - figured I'd chime in.  Like he said, one use for 4 hours and the camera was full of water.  It wasnt' working outside, was all black (but I was a bonehead and didnt turn up the brightness either) and the clarity wasn't fantastic in the shack - it looked ok but wasn't what I expected - so must have been the water in it screwing it up.  I called Cabelas - they didn't have any more in stock AT ALL - none in the store, none in the warehouse - completely out.  They busted their butt to find me another but struck out.

So I called Marcum and explained the situation - they were great - they are sending me out a new camera.  Not the entire unit, just a new camera - should be pretty easy to put the new one on, said it's just a coupla screws.  I ordered the camera panner as well just after getting the 620.  There was a screw on the back of the battery compartment that was cross threaded and so that was faulty as well.  Got two bad things from Marcum the same week.  So I told them about that and they are sending me a new panner as well - just have to ship the faulty items back.

Their customer service was spot on - jury is still out on the camera - will let everyone know... if I ever get it fixed - may end up just returning it in the end if the camera takes on water again.

Got into the crappie with my lx5 day before yesterday and slayed em... that still works awesome!!!   ;D
