Devils lake
« on: Dec 19, 2010, 11:29 PM »
hello my neighbours to the south! hope everyone is ready for this years hardwater season! as being from manitoba i was hoping to do some south of the border exploring to devils lake. as i have never been there (or even fished in the US before) i was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on the lake. also if anyone knows how much a liscence would cost me down there, that would be awesome too! i've heard of something called the perch patrol outfitting, would it be wise to go out with them for a day and then take the next day solo? any info would be much appreciated! thanks, good luck this year, and stay safe.

NR fishing license cost .....

Non-Resident Licenses
•Fishing, Hunting, Furbearer Certificate - $2.00. Required of all licensed anglers and hunters.
•Fishing License (16 or older) - $35.00.  Not required of a person under age 16 if accompanied by a licensed adult, except for paddlefish.
•Husband/Wife Fishing License - $45.00.
•10-day Fishing License - $25.00.
•3-day Fishing License - $15.00.

Yep I would hire the perch patrol the first day or some other guides, not sure if Jason Mitchell still guides but also worth a call.  Getting a lot of snow again this winter better bring a skidoo along..
Check out Lake Irving...(part of Devils Lake chain)....
Ill be heading up your way though this winter when ever I can!  Better fishing IMO.

Snow conditions are pretty tough at the moment. We have another storm moving in that is suppose to dump another foot on the lake. If you are looking for a guide, give woodland resort a call.

Looking at coming to Devils Lake to do some fishing sometime this winter. Who's the best to call about guiding for a day?
No place I'd rather be, then on the ice fishing!

I was up a little over 2 weeks ago.  Stayed at the Woodland.  Tried to fish on our own the first day.  Very tough.  Even on sleds getting around was sketchy.  Slush holes and inconsistent ice.  They had a tracked-up truck go through the ice into 40' of water about 10 days ago.  Everyone got out, but it sounded pretty hairy.  I would recommend using perch patrol.  We ended up using their permie house and did well on northern.  Good resort - kyle is first class there as well as the eats at the restaraunt, transportation, guides, rooms, rates, etc.  Everything you need is on site for the most part...best cleaning station I've seen.  But that lake is tough when you throw 16-20" of snow on top of it.
