Black Lake near Sodus
« on: Jan 18, 2011, 11:15 AM »
Does any one out there have any information about ice fishing on Black lake? We have fished it several times during the summer for bass and have been told there are nice gills in the lake also. Never fished it through the ice though.
Thanks for any info

The only information I have is that it is fished through the ice.  Most of the activity is along the west edge of the lake.  I'm a little unclear about the success rate, but if you can carve out the time, it's probably worth a shot.  From my experience this year, it's been spotty on most lakes.  Hope that helps!    :icefish:
I only ice fish because the water's hard.

OK, I know I am a newbee-this is my first year of ice fishing-but I would have though that after 123 views, some one would have an opinion on Black lake and if it is worth ice fishing.
I know there are some nice bass in the lake because we (my fishing buddy) have caught them during the summer. I don"t want your honey hole location, just a "ya, its worth the trip" or "na, don't waste your time."
Thanks

I got some reports from friends in that area of the walleye fishing being pretty good this year. They have quads, so I 'm not sure how far they had to go, or even the general location.

Are you talking about the Black Lake in Cheboygan county?
The lake I am talking about is in the SW corner of the state in Berrien County.
Thanks for the response anyway and good fishing to you.

Spent a few hours on Black Lake this afternoon.  Not a lot of numbers for my first time out there, but every fish caught was over 9".  Definitely worth a second look.  :woot:
