Strategies if you HAVE to fish in the slush
« on: Jan 21, 2011, 09:54 AM »
So I'm thinking of heading out this weekend in spite of the conditions. I've got some lined rubber boots and I'm thinking of bringing a tarp to put my gear on. Any other tips for fishing in the slush?

Snowshoes work great for getting out there but then you gotta build yourself a platform that you are able to stand on then you can remove your snowshoes OR if you want just leave snowshoes on but its a bugger when your fighting a big one. I have a sled that I glide on top then arrange my gear on top of it.
As you step forward and make an imprint with just normal winter boots you can pack down each step but that is slow progress. Keep dry feet and you should be OK.

dry feet are key when my foot got wet last weekend i was sick for 3 days just getting over it now. I'm probably going to try fishing this weekend again just on a lake a little smaller.  ;D
live to fish or fish to live... i choose the first

"but then you gotta build yourself a platform that you are able to stand on" .............this works very well and I second the snow shoe idea

I sit on my snowmobile   ;D   surprizingly coocoo had a top crust of only 1.5 inches with 10 inches of slush, then 10 inches of ice under that,   my 600 pound sled stayed up on the crust, but when I stepped off the sled,  my fat butt broke through the crust,   my sled had a huge track and a big footprint   :P

Ise de by who catches the fish...and takes em home to Liza.
