Tarantula Jigs
« on: Nov 08, 2011, 06:10 PM »
Just got a couple of TARANTULA JIGS.   A lil pricey at $5 each, but if they help fill the bucket especially when the fish are finicky, I'm all for trying them.

Anybody use them?  Your experiences?

Got mine a month ago, couple of each color.  Super cool, can't wait to use them.

I'm interested in how they perform as well.  They look to me like they'd scare finicky fish. Not to mention setting the hook looks like it would pull them out of the fishes' mouths. Plus, when I'm nailin' pannies I don't want to monkey around trying to remove 3 hooks!

I only plan on using them when the bite is slow.... It's too cumbersome when the bite is on the fish are in a feeding frenzy.

If the bite is slow I would go to something small and with a single hook or a plain hook. Not something wild and flashy like the tarantula.

Just a thought,  when the bite is slow, I tend to go to a single tiny hook with a single spike ;D

As small at the jig is I don't think it will be any problems.  The way the hooks "float" out, it looks like most fish will be hooked with one of the three hooks.  When you have one in your hand its hard to believe how small they are.  Smaller than a little fingernail.

Weren't they around last year just not in the brass color? Did anyone have success with them?

Honestly, I haven't tried yet. Their action underwater is very nice though. Bait on the hooks flare them out even more. I think they will produce well.

They look like they might be good for deep-water Perch.

those do not look smaller then my pinky nail... and if they are then any crappie will be able to swallow that thing, making catch and release of small fish deadly for most... with all that said, cant wait to buy some once they hit the shelves at fleet farm! lol at 5 bucks each i refuse to pay shipping as well.

I picked up a couple of each last week. I just thought they looked cool. Cool catches fish, right?

Actually, was thinking that they may be a nice new look for the perch on the IGL's.

I have some coming. Think they will be good on fish that just try to bump the lures instead of taking a nibble. Those are the fish I break out the artillery for.

I used the gold one for about 30 minutes today on the IGL's. Tipped two hooks with a wiggler and one with a minnow head. I caught three perch and a white bass all off of the minnow head. I think they will be great on the ice!

Used one last year and worked great, but the hooks are a pain to unhook, especially when 2 of the three are hooked

They only bit in the one hook with a minnow head. They didn't slurp down the whole jig. If they did, I could imagine it would be somewhat of a chore
