can you put an Ice transducer on a Lowrance X96
« on: Jan 17, 2011, 06:52 PM »
Hey guys stumbled onto your forum and thought this would be a good place to find out about putting an ice tranducer on an x96 that i have. If you can what transducer should i get and where would be a good location to get it.  Lastly i see at cabela's lowrance has a new portable ice kit.  Would this kit work?

The kit from Cabela's would work fine. A transducer is a transducer. If yours could be easily removed from your boat it would work too. The main difference in the ice ducers is they are made to hang straight down. Others on here have taken theirs from their boat and mounted it on a stick or something to get it to read down through their hole. They work best when the transducer is positioned just below the bottom of the ice. Good luck !!!

i have been doing the stick thing.  But my transducer had some mice chew through wires and has become faulty.  Beings i don't use it much in the boat anymore and needed a tranducer i was thinking this kit would work better than the lawnmower battery in a box.

i use the X-96 as well, and what i did for the transducer was take some pipe insulation ( the foam kind), wrapped it around the cable, taped it off TIGHT, added a few nails to get it to sink straight down.    works just like a vexilar float that way.   last time i checked the ice ducer lowrance offers wouldnt work with the X_96 because it uses a different style plug.   it would be nice if they rectified that problem.......checking in to that in the AM

The link to Lowrance is just 3 posts above, right to the X96 ice ducer.

Did you ever click on that? It's really easy.
