My Propane Pain
« on: Jan 04, 2011, 10:49 PM »
got the new propane jiffy for Christmas from wifey. i drilled 5-6 holes and realized the handle was loose, after closer look ,seen that plastic housing was cracked. brought that one back to store and picked up new one, back out to the shack and put new one together, screwed on propane tank only to discover that one of the fittings had a bad crimp on it and was leaking propane. fool me once shame on you-fool me twice shame on me. sporting goods guy says come on back he has one more all put together and tested, i say no thanks on the jiffy. and i am the newest owner of a strikemaster lazermag. >:(

That sucks! Thank you China for all your crap. Now we just have to sift through it to find something good that's already expensive.

Not to bash the new Jiffys intentionaly, I own an older jiffy legend lightning myself. I've seen 3 apart on a dealers counter already this season, clutches that won't engage, clutches that won't disengage and one new one with no spark ! That doesn't bode well for them !

Probably the reason I don't like to buy anything the first year or two that they are out. It seems like every new product will have some bugs in it that need to be taken care of. Kind of like the Humminbird ice sonars that seemed to have some problems for a while. Lots more satisfied customers now than before.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Not really Chinese, most of it made  right here in the USA. So the dealer just gave out another one, then offered a third? Why would he do that? not many dealers with 3 of them anywhere these days. It clearly says to call Feldman industries not bring back to original seller. Sorry to hear about all the problems, mine runs like a charm. ( so far)

Wow, I never thought a Strikemaster owner would bash a Jiffy, there is more plastic on some strikemasters then there is metal.  Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the new Jiffy, Im a long time owner, and I agree with the above, I never order a product in it's first season, you never know what you will get. then again some companies you dont find the issue until a few seasons in

That is a good point,   If we would all boycot everything  made in China maybe are brothers would have jobs and all are wages would rise.  But that would be a hard pill for most of America to swallow at this point.  The point being we are all screwed..........

I was a die hard jiffy fan for years myself, but everybody on this site says the same thing " Ive had my jiffy for over twenty years and never had a problem" well guess what, jiffy made good heavy augers twenty years ago. i still have my jiffy model 30 and will never sell it because its a reliable back up. but it seems that there are more jiffy's from 20 years ago running than ten years ago. I will be the first to tell you that i treated my old jiffy like crap and it took the abuse, but i don't believe the new ones can perform the same.

After i bought the Strikemaster i went to their website, very cool, they have all kinds of replacement parts you can buy at a reasonable cost and a blade exchange program. so if you do break their plastic parts your not up the creek.

I agree. It might even nice for folks to quit blaming unions when the blame really lies with greedy CEOs. Anyone blaming unions should be willing to work for the wages that are paid to the Communist Chinese workers since that is where the company leaders sent the work. If people here worked for $2 an hour the work would have stayed here. Any volunteers?  ;)

  This union guy whole heartedly agrees. Unless our minimum wage drops to two bucks we'll never compete wilth the 14 yeard old making shoes in Indonesia..... union or non-union. Luckily I'm in a trade union and not manufacturing ......... Buying USA is the best thing we can do. Many items in my house are made in the USA because I looked before buying but unfortunately many items are not including my Strikemaster  :-\

I hear you on the "foreign" made stuff.   When you are buying something, you should make sure the manufacturer is honest and reliable.

Take for example the "New and Improved" General Motors.

Taxpayer money bailed them out, and to thank us they are building a nice 680 million dollar manufacturing plant.... In Mexico.

Won't be buying any of their products anymore.

I have Lazer Mag and love it.  I am dumbfounded as to why you say not to use it until the ice is over 14"-16" ?  I used mine every time I go, unless I can spud old holes open.   :icefish:
