EsSkimo Flip Over Shelter Decision
« on: Jan 26, 2011, 06:57 PM »
I am looking at a couple of Eskimo flip overs and wondered if anybody has had any experience with them. Quality? RED vs. GREEN? Any info anybody has on them would be great!
Here are
1) Used (about 3 years used maybe 6 times) Green Eskimo 3 man $200
2) New red Eskimo Quick Flip 2 $240
3) New red Eskimo Quick Flip 3 $338
Usually its just my son and I going out but every now and then the MRS. joins us to. So Im not sure which way to go.
Everybody on here has always been great help when I have a question.
Thanks!!!!

i have the green one and like it for its quick setup and it works great..the only downsides is it is kind of heavy, so i dont like dragging it a long ways..the only other thing i dont like is with that much open ice that your feet sit on it doesnt stay as warm as the smaller 2 man types where you and your feet sit on the sled itself..like the frabill hideout..i dont have any experience with the red ones but would assume they would be very similar.

yeah those prices seem really high i'd look around more i got my 2 last year for 160 or 180 but i don't think the threes are around the same price this year. and mine kicks ass sits two comfortably and doesn't flap in the wind like other brands.

Thanks for the info guys!! I want to stay with the flip over style versus the pop up style. I know they are more money and heavier but i have a quad to pull it and like the idea of being able to haul my stuff in it.

I have the red Quick Flip 3.  I've had it 3 years, I love it.   If there is a chance of fishing three adults or two adults and a child buy the 3, lot more room and only a little more weight.  The three is tight with 3 adults.   The only time weight is an issue is if there is snow and you're pulling it by hand.   I mainly fish by myself and can load it in the truck myself and have pulled it over a mile through 4" of snow.  It was tough but I made it.   With a quad no reason not to go with the 3.  Buy the cover if pulling with a quad or you will have a sled full of snow, I learned the hard way!

My husband and I own the Eskimo 3 and love it.  Its easy to set up and put down.  You might want to look at Costco they're cheaper.  We got our there for 169$  Good luck

Watch out for the oldest versions on the red style as the plastic corner pieces pop off if you pull on the cross bars to set it up. You have to physically pull each individual pole up to click it into place otherwise they will dislocate at the corners. This isn't a big problem but i do believe eskimo has fixed the problem on the newest red ones. Go look in a sporting goods store at the newest versions of the reds and look at the corners to make sure the red eskimos you are looking at are really "new" bc they could be nearly 3 years old or older by now. As for the green style, I don't have any complaints other than the bench seat gets in the way sometimes when getting your gear from behind you. The sleds can get worn out from pulling around behind an ATV so look for that. Also buy yourself the reinforced plastic tracks that are made for the eskimo quickflips which will extend the life of the sled when pulling behind your own ATV. Hope this helps.

I like the red better then the green, does a better job of blocking the light.

Hey ic, you can build a floor with 4' x 4' plywood.  Cut it in half, put hinges in the middle to fold it up and cut two holes in it with a jigsaw for your holes.  I have the green quickflip 2.  It works great, but can be heavy.  You will need ice anchors for windy days.  Get the heavy-duty Eskimo anchors at Wholesale Sports.  The HT ones will bend in strong winds.  If you pull it behind a four wheeler, it fits perfectly inside an Otter Magnum sled.

I have a red quick-flip 2 and have used it extensively since last season and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It can be a bit heavy if you have to drag it up the steep banks or through slush, but that is the case with all the flip style shelters. The fabric is holding great as well and the seats are comfortable.

I have the Quick-3 in green with the bench seat.Good, quick shelter. The bad the bottom poles will freeze and bend and the plastic clips will break when it gets to cold.
