Electra endurance?
« on: Jan 14, 2011, 08:36 AM »
Ok, it's boiled down to how many holes I can get out of one charge.  I fish Ohio alot and normally run 12 tipups and 4 rods, and move alot.  It's no big deal for me to cut 40 holes wiht my hand auger.  So how many holes are you getting out of one charge in say, 12" of good ice?  If it won't cut for me all day I'm going gas, it's all boiled down to endurance.

I know Junior has one, and he loves it.  I think he carries an extra 12V around with him in case he needs it.  I would imagine if you carried an extra battery, 40 hole shouldnt be an issue.  I looked at them too, and ended up getting gas.  All personal preference I guess. Gas makes me nervous, because I hear a lot of problems, but there are probably 10X more people that dont have problems.  Electrics can have their issues as well.

Jigster's correct. I believe I saw abel's post on the Michigans Sportsmans forum and went and purchased the Stingray instead. For what it's worth, I use a 7" electra Lazer and got 22 holes in 11" of ice out of the first battery before it started to slow down. I wouldn't need it if I fished alone and didn't have a partner using it too but that's what friends do!  :) I slapped in the spare and drilled until I went home for the day. I never ran the second one down. I sold my strikemaster gas for this gem. Not one blip of a problem with my electric vs. the gas. I got my Electra Lazer from the Sportsmans Guide for $345 shipped to my door. Besides charging the battery it's 100% maintenance free.

I just got the Lazer electra 7" myself. tried it out last weekend. drilled 23 holes in 7 to 10 inch ice....still had a little power left but the charge soon light came on. for 30 bucks, I think I'll pick up spare battery.

Has anyone tried 8" teeth on 7" auger? I know the outside holes are a little different but I'm thinking of drilling and tapping the 8" teeth to work on my auger. They are stainless steel and probably tempered so I know it wont be easy.
Remember...just cuz you arent paranoid...doesn't mean they're not out to get ya!!
