Summer forums?
« on: Jan 02, 2011, 05:36 PM »
This seems to be the best ice fishing forum to help know about ice fishing in Montana.

Does anyone know of one equally as good for summer fishing in the state?

I know of one that specifically is a forum for those of us that like to fish East of the Divide. Google search Montana and catfish, walleye, sauger, goldeye, warm water species, or any of the above. I am a field staff member and tournament director.
So many fish, so little time.

I thought it was MYFISHFINDER.COM. I could be wrong, but that one is good too.

Thanks for the help. So far on the listed forums, I haven't found much for west of the divide here in Montana. I'll keep looking! Most sites I find are more the L.L Bean fly fishing types. I'm more of a rolled up jeans, and soggy sneaker type of fisherman. And I have been known to fish with worms!

'cept we where felt sole shoes as to not bust our asses on the rocks.
We are serious flyfishers, but the anti LL Bean /Orvis folk. Ack! We catch fish between their legs  ;D
Get bit!

Nobody hardly goes to myfishfinder. I go to a forum hosted by a certain radio show. More people go there than fishfinder, and everyone's pretty friendly for the most part. Only get partially annoyed at posts by a certain member who gets his bird reports from his friends chucky cheese, ronald mcdonald, and mickey mouse, or whatever he calls them.

Summer times because I fish in Oregon a lot with my kids I use a forum called iFish. I think it has some insane number of registered users like 20,000 and it's forums are very active. There are quite a few people on there from western Montana so it would be nice to see western Montana threads being started there instead of all Oregon, Washington, and Idaho ones like it is now. Pretty good bunch of folks on that site. A few years ago myself and a lady from that site who posts as SturgeonsRule or something to that effect put on a fishing day on a private lake for kids with autism and their families. A whole bunch of people and sponsors on that site chipped in to make it a pretty amazing day for the kids. Every kid there regardless of if they were autistic or simply the sibling of an autistic went home with a rod, reel, pole, net, and camp chair. I think all told we had around 30 kids most of whom were severely autistic. Without the help of that site and how many members it has we never would have been able to pull something like that off.

I've talked to a guy in Oregon that's on a hunting forum and if he posts there half as much as he posts on the hunting forum, ifish must be a very active forum.

That's actually a really good idea. With the way web advertising / sponsors and web revenue generation work it would be a good idea for the site owner to make a summer fishing forum for each state that has people who would like that. Sponsors are more likely to want to advertise and sponsor here if they have an audience for their ads 365 days a year. When spring gets close it would be worth asking the site admins if they would do it.
