PEACH LAKE ACCESS QUESTION ????
« on: Dec 22, 2010, 10:23 PM »
We used to fish Peach Lake in the 70's & 80's but have not been there since then.  Is there any public access at this time??  We used to get on at the beach area ... is that still OK??  At one time my buddy had a relative with a home there, but they have long since passed away.

There is a Peach lake just over the border in NY, up on the western side of CT but it's all in New York, I think.

Peach Lake is off RTE #121 in North Salem NY if that is what you are talking about. Just over the CT border. I have herd about lots of nice white perch in there. I never fished it,  though I have seen guys on the ice.

I think that Peach Lake is partly in Conn., at least that's what I've been told in the past.

According to Googlemaps (which may or maynot be accurate) Peach lake is entirely in NY

I used to fished Peach Lake on a regular basis about 12-14 years ago...then I stopped ice fishing.  Back in the day a fishing partner did some tree work at a house out there and he asked for permission to fish the lake.  The guy took him to a small parking area and told him don't block the driveways or the hydrant and you'll be ok.  I'm back ice fishing, and I want to hit up Peach, but that partners gone and I don't want to take a chance.

I think I can still find the spot to park if you want to drive! ::)

I have a good friend that lives on Peach lake. You can still park down by the beach (entrance near westchester county line sign) and I believe nobody will bother you in the winter, I parked in the summertime and never got asked once about being a resident. They are replacing all the pipes in the ground the last few months so the construction is heavy around the lake all year, the old septic tanks were leaking so much from the homes into the lake they had to put in public septic (Obama tax dollar project). They had problems with water quality this past summer I was told so I would pass on that lake for a fish meal. Maybe its better, who knows.

The meal would be a Peach Lake poo-poo platter!

I fished nearly every summer day from 1974 to 1988 and know every piece of the lake.  We used to have fish fries a couple of times a year and the lake was abundant with LMB, rock bass, catfish, crappie, whites, yellows, pickerel and sunnies.  I heard recently the white perch population has dropped off to next to nothing.

Someone also told me SMB was introduced and took hold.  I have heard rumors of carp, lake trout and walleye over the years but have never seen any.  I suspect a resident grabs one on a fishing trip elsewhere, keeps it alive, and throws it in the lake.  Then the story grows and the non-native species does not.

I have recently been back to the lake and heard informally, at least in Vails, that there could be scrutiny towards non residents.
The lake is completely surrounded by private communities or privately owned land.  It is in New York only.  Personally, if you are looking for fish to put on your plate, I think you should concentrate on state stocked areas with known safe level of pollutants.

I do verify the septic system project.  It is huge.
