I live in Whitney Point and have been fishing the reservoir for many years. Can't say that I'm any expert on that water as just when I think I got it figured out,I get skunked. I would suggest that you try the old river channel that runs the length of the lake. Look for the deeper water usually in the 20 ft deep range. you can either go up the Keible Road side or park at Dorchester Park and walk out from there. I usually can get some nice crappie and perch in these waters. Also a lot of small walleye. Hoping to find the bigger ones one of these days. Are you planning on doing the crappie derby on the 29th? Good luck and tight lines.

We don't camp all night, but I hear that some do. we usually get there by 5AM to get a decent parking spot and our spot on the ice. I have a few spots marked on the gps and will pick one of those spots for the derby.

No, I won't do that. In fact,if I saw you,I may even show you a couple of places. You still have a few weeks before the derby. You should get up to the lake and try some different spots. I should  be there this Sat. Good luck and tight lines to you.

If you find a honey hole and have some tip downs in some of those holes, you will be busy. How did you make out Sat? We pretty much got skunked. Fished 20 ft of water. Marked a lot and couldn't get any takers. Only got 2 keeper crappies between 3 of us. There were some foreign guys next to us and they caught quite a few. Problem was, they were keeping everything they caught. They had a lot of undersize crappie as well as a big bass, all went on the ice. Where is DEC when you want them?

I hear you. We have seen them in the same place 3 times now and are close enough to see the undersize fish they are keeping. The one guy has a clam shelter and puts the fish in there. We saw the guy pull the big bass out and he even told us it was a bass. We were waiting to see if he would put it back, but he didn't.
