I just recently purchased the newest vexilar the fl-22hd and it's my first flasher. I am looking for some people that have used the competitors and the Vexilars to shed some light on the flasher world!!!

Go to the equipment board and you will find all the info you are looking for.  This topic has been brought up a few times and vex all the way. good luck with your new unit.

Use a Marcum lx-5 prefer over a vex because you can determine fish size because the color pallets do not not blend.
Never get excited there's a reason for everything,I just don't know what it is??

Sounds like you are a little late asking your question if you already bought a fl22! It should be a good unit for you if it fits your style of fishing! I dont know why the marcum guys think you cannot tell size of fish on a vex cuz I dont have a problem with that. Besides, you can measure them after you catch them! Ps, I have one on the way, too.

Ive had a humminbird ice 55 for 2 years now also a vex for about 12. Ill take the bird any day. Doesnt seem to effect my fish catchin at all lts of crappies from shenango and pymatuning and tons of perch fro erie!!!! I dont seem to have an issue with that 2 inches of target seperation either!!!! or losing sight of my jig!!!And that big flat dial with the digital numbers on it withe the back uplight for nite fishing. Na ill keep the bird!!!!!!!!!

LOL!! Mixed opinions as I suspected...I'm just glad to have a flasher period! Been wanting one for years and couldn't afford one. Finally I caught a break $100 off coupon from Cabelas I couldn't refuse...only paid $449.  Plus, Santa brought me an underwater camera too so now I'm set!! Now all I need is team of sled dogs to pull my 200lbs of gear out onto the ice for me!! Ehh it's well worth the pull though...if your out for the day you gotta be comfortable! ;)

Now that you have a flasher just go out and use it. Stay away from the dog fights that go on here about whats better (Bird, marcum vex ect.) doesn't matter anymore as long as you have a way to help you catch more fish.

agree with flypopper... at least you have one, go and use it!!! The debate about which is better is getting very tired. Play with them in the stores, and buy the one that suits your needs best.

the bird pretty much walks away with it.. i got the ice 55 when it first came out and i am so glad i did.. big dial, easy to see, digital depth, great target separation, cool looking 6 color display(like that matters), backlight, target bar, nice zoom, i have never had a problem with it,, thats about all i can think of.. the ONLY thing i would do different is have that split screen zoom like the marcum, but big deal, i would still take my bird ANY day of the week.. i dont think i have heard too many people not happy with their birds.. but yeah seriously a flasher is a flasher.. they all work fine.
When hell freezes over Ill Ice fish there too

Well I appreciate the feedback from all of you + and -  I know one thing is for sure...I have more fun on the ice now than ever before!! My kids, my girlfriend and her girlfriends all thought ice fishing was boring until I set myself up w the insulated hut, power auger, flasher, camera, heater, stove, hot food and tunes...now all they want to know is when we are going out again !!!  To me thats priceless. FISH ON!!!

I bought a marcum because I'm on a budget and it has all the features of a vex at $100 less. Plus it has a more crisp image, can tell the fish sizes even if the lines overlap each other. And of course marcum has 2.15" target seperation to vex's 2.5".

So far I'm very happy!!!

im not saying this because i have a marcum but from people how ive talked to who have had the vex and marcums . they say the marcum is better? i like my marcum its awesome . works great and i can pick up the smallest jigs with a maggot on it . its alot cheaper than a vex and even if the vex was as good it cost more. sorry cant help you on the hummingbird

Well then I guess you'll have to trade up to a Showdown, either one already has 1/2" target separation.

I fished next to an LX5 today with no interference like I'd hoped.Liked the nice bright display and the SFL looked very crisp.I do like the larger display, flat screen,6 color pallet and digital display on my 55 though. If I had bought the LX5 first I'd have been very happy with it I'm sure, but I'm also very happy with my Bird.
