Big bob Jack Trap?
« on: Dec 25, 2010, 07:25 PM »
I got the Big Bob Jack trap for x-mas today. But I have a question on it. I use large live suckers for bait and this trap sets off really easy, but dont they make some kind of clip that prevents false flags?

I've seen people not pull the flag all the way up to set it.  This creates more tension in the flag, causing tougher flags. Dunno if it works though, cause I use heritage 8)

They do have a device that scews on near the reel. It's supposed to pinch the line. I've never used them so I don't know how good they work.
I also set the flag lower for more tension. If using suckers I slice them with a knife to slow them down alittle.
Thank a Vet.

He does sell a big bait clip or something like that. All it is, is a gator clip with some surgical tubing on the ends and the line is placed between. This prevents the bait from tripping the flag.

That's exactly what I do with big bait.

Tim Jackson makes a clip but as bdog said its just a clip with surgical tubing and a screw to hold it.  I'm sure they work great it you have 40 bucks to spend on 5 of them, just set your flag shorter, or trim them down with a knife

yeah, shorten the flag, it works well, and the trigger is still smooth

I use a wooden clothes-pin. Drill a hole in clothes pin same diameter as the screw so not to split the wood. drill small pilot hole in the tip -up(jack). screw to the tip-up just run your line through clothes pin. I like using wood over plastic because of the cold. Works great for pike bait down here. I'll try to post a pic.

Thanks for all the ideas, I think I will use the clip with the tubing that they make for it, I got75.00 between the trap, line, and sleeve, I guess a few more bucks wont hurt. Not! :)

go for it. i have five  big bobs that i use when i fish on  big lakes and they work great. I also use them on my other set of jack traps 31 ich 4inch reel ones i got last year. I love all 10 of my jack traps. There a pile of cash but worth it if you use them all the time.
