G'Town Stats - 12/21/10

Fished at the PumpHouse from 10:00am - 3:00pm. Pretty much a hit and miss day, but I did catch some fish. Caught 7 rainbows total. First fish I caught was a 1.5 - 2 pounder. Nice!! The other 6 were in the 8" - 10" range. Fishing really slowed up after 12:30pm as I only caught 1 fish after that. Weather was a little chilly in the morning, but warmed up nicely in the afternoon with plenty of sunshine and no wind. Ice was about 8" thick with a little hard packed snow on top of it. Well, made it back up to the pumphouse this morning. First one there and started fishing at about 6:20am. IceShanty member "drrandypepper" showed up shortly after. Iced 12 rainbows today, so I did a little better than yesterday. I think "drrandypepper" iced 14 or 15. Overall a pretty fair day of fishing. Next trip up probably won't be until next Tuesday morning. Maybe try Denton's or Comer's then. Would also like to try East Fork Reservoir sometime soon. Has anyone tried East Fork yet ?? - SpitzoMT

I knew I should have came and talked to you for some secrets:) I showed up about the same time as your friend and fished with a black fold up about 60 yards from you. I think there was a couple of guys and a woman just west of me and norht of you. We couldn't even see a fish from there. Caught one 6" rainbow and a couple of other bites. That's when I gave up and moved in to try for brookies. That was frustrating in itself. My girlfriend pulled in one about 14" and we each lost a couple, but that was all we could hook.
Oh yeah, and thanks for busting the trail with the ATV from the access site, it made dragging my gear a whole lot easier!!

Wow.....sounds like you had a ruff one out there buckfever. Your girlfriend iced a nice one though. Where you from?? C'mon over and visit next time you see me. Don't have any secrets and my limited ice fishing knowledge is free. You're welcome for the trail busting. It does make it easier for everyone else when people take ATV's out on the ice. Whats up zimmer2? Sorry, but I won't be out tomorrow. I go back to work tomorrow for my 4 night shifts. My plans as of now, if I'm not to tired after the twelve hour shift, are to go out Tuesday(12/28) morning when I get off work. Heck, I hope to make it out next Wednesday and Thursday as well. Let me know if you'll be out at all next week. Who knows, maybe we'll see each other on the ice. Take care - SpitzoMT

Anyone doing good on Salmon?  The past 2 years have really been slow.  Last year I think I never had more than a 5 fish day and the most I've caught this year has been 4.  In 2008, we had many 100 fish days.

Fished Friday the 24th 7:30am till 1pm iced 13 rainbows. Comers Pt. Partners not
so lucky they only iced a couple.  Although my buddy Zimmer2 did quite well.
Monday the 27th at the pump house I caught 8 rainbows a couple of them
1.5 to 2lbs. my partners much better than Friday they each caught 6 or 7
rainbows and a brookie. No salmon.
Thinking of Clark Canyon this next weekend anyone been up there yet?

I fished it yesterday all day.  I fished Rainbow bay and Badger bay and the fishing sucked!!!  I tried everything in the playbook and I was lucky to ice the few trout that I did.  They didn't seem hungry.  They weren't biting very hard.  I did awesome earlier this year so it was really weird.
