I think most of the ice in N.W. In. is iffy at best. Always be safe. I believe that by January most places should be safe. All the snow has put a hold on making GOOD ICE.

Getting a little demanding are we?  I read your post and help anyone that I can.  I don't fish Long Lake in Valpo so I can't report.  If you think your math class is a better source for info on ice fishing, then why are you asking here?

5-6" straight out near the public boat launch. If you head north or south watch out. There are spots 3" and maybe less

10 day forecast shows mid 40's and rain around new years... a day of that combined with super cold temps after will really help those lakes in that area for sure!

Went out to long this morning and fished by the power lines. A good 3 to 4 inches of ice with some slush ice on top. I walked to the center of the lake under the power lines and had 7" of slush ice. No good ice, so be careful if you go out, there was four guys fishing the south end. I dont think the ice would be very good out there. I did catch 6 keeper gills and 1 9" perch, lots of dinks

Fished the south end this morning and the ice is VERY spotty. One hole had 5" then 15 yes away had 2.5". Fishing was so so, had to sort through slot of little guys. ended up keeping 15 gills averaging 7".  Be safe out there!!!!
