How to clean a fish in 10 seconds!
« on: Dec 25, 2010, 08:18 AM »
I found this video and thought it would be helpful to others. The guy in this video certainly makes it look easy. I've got to try this the next time I'm out fishing. 8)

I've used that method for a couple years, problem is if you want boneless fillets, you gotta do the last set.  It does speed it up.

silvercreeker,
I agree with you and would like to see a continuance of this video, where the bones were removed. ;)

silvercreeker,

What I like about this video is he's doing a preliminary cleaning right on the ice. With a paring knife. :afro:  Semi cleaned fish go in the compact cooler. Skin, gills, head, etc, are already destined to the recycling / waste disposal area / garbage bag / fertilizer.
Getting the spine and ribcage out after that is easily done at home, after you've done it a few times.  8)

But my usual MO is I never cut the head off and end up with 2 fillets, no bones...  I have to go out of my way to see what they've been feeding on and I usually take the lot home before doing so, so I end up annoying my roadside pickup 'friends' with a bunch of fish 'shells'...  :P

But to be considerate, I only clean them no more than 2 days before pickup day or freeze the entrails. Keeps the neighbors from  turning  and the raccoons & crows away.

Just a cautionary note. In some areas you are not allowed to clean fish on the water (hard or cold) other than gutting and gilling. The entire carcas length and skin must be available for inspection.
