Line for rainbows

What do you all recommend? I'm guessing very light flourocarbon.

I use Pline copolymer in 4, 6 and 8lbs for most of my icefishing for rainbows/char.

I use 4 and 6# Stren Gold with a FC leader. I like the tinted line it helps me to see where the line is going. The color doesn't seem to bother the trout any.

Wow, I'm surprised the line isn't lighter. Thanks for the input.

I use 6 lb and 10lb test fluorocarbon on my traps for rainbows.

10lb off the mainline to a sampo swivel and then 6lb to the hook.

I use 4# P-Line fluoro and my largest trout landed on it was 24" and just over 7#.They seem to be finicky biters and you can't horse them in.

I use the heaviest line that I can get away with.

I also switch between Mono and Fluorocarbon, depending on the clarity of the water.
Use quality products, and you won't be let down.

I like 4# Stren Clear/Blue as my first choice or 6# flouro (any brand).

I will match my line to the body of water.  I use 6# or 8# mono in the big bodies of water where fish average 2+ pounds I could could hook into a pig.  Smaller lakes where I know I am very unlikely to see anything over a couple pounds I will stick to 2# or 4#.

Other things to consider:

Temperature; If it's very cold out I lean toward heavier line.  I hate snapping frozen line.  Vice versa, if I am in the warm shanty, I go lighter.

Patience;  If you are the type of fisherman that tends to crank on the fish and get it up the hole quickly, like I am, go with heavier line.  If you are the type to play the fish longer, you can probably go lighter if you want.

Bait/Lure.  If you are fishing a small light jig, a lighter line will work better. A super light jig on heavy line, the line may not want to un coil well.

This will be my fifth year ice fishing.  I have progressively gone to heavier line.  I have just lost too many fish to line snapping, sometimes from cold, or my over zealous landing attempts, or a combination of both.  I haven't found any drop off in numbers of fish by going to 6# or 8# and have been able to land fish that i otherwise would not have.

I'm thinking of going with 6# on the spool and having lighter line for a leader if needed. Thanks a lot guys.

6# mono Bekely XT 90% of the time, 4# late in the season as they get more finicky

My trout are stockers so 2# line will do it for me.

I fish CO and use #6 Trilene Micro Ice.  It seems to work well this year and no need for a leader.

4# teilene micro ice, very strong, landed a 14 laker laker with it, and does not spook fish at all, plenty of bows with it.
