I use the floaters that sometimes turn up in the bait pail, or a dead bait from a hit and run flag. If nothing is dead I find the smallest bait in the bucket and use that

I've always used eyes as soon as I can. Nothing works better for me! Smelt fillets or heads work well for me also

Check the rulebook, but I believe if you add bait, it can only have one point (no trebles)

How is this any different from putting a shiner or sucker on a treble hook under a trap?

After reading the regs, I would say that you can use trebble hooks.  A trebble hook is a single hook with more than one point.  You are not allowed to have more than one hook, or one lure, or one fly on a line.  They don't want you to be able to catch more than one fish at a time on a single line.  I couldn't find anything about not using trebble hooks with live bait in Maine.

I use the "jigging rap" lure a lot.  It's sold all over Maine.  It has 5 points.  I hope it's legal.

We've had this discussion a few times, but the law don't read like it should.
I asked a warden if using a stinger hook in addition to a treble was legal, he said yes, as long as both hooks are in the same bait.  ;)

You can use a piece of work or crawler to tip them- Wally world usually has them year round.  As far as meal worms or wax worms, if you have a pet store in the area, you can get them there.  They use them to feed lizards and turtles and stuff like that.

for perch i put several maggots on each of the trebles, or a sing meal worm wrapped around all three.  i use minnows on these lures for walleye, pike will take it too
