One thing you will definately want are Hali's..  With the deeper water in the Black Hills lakes, it's nice to have that extra weight to get down fast.  They arent the only jig I use, but I won't go fishing without them.   For the shallower panfish, just about like anywhere, Genz bug, Gill Getter, Frostee's, and Marmooskas are killler!   Good luck, let us know where you plan on fishing.

Thanks Oyler,

Sounds like Sheridan would be a good place to start, but I still have got some of the basic stuff to acquire before I can get out and fish.  I'm going to start picking up the small stuff while looking for a nice used 1 or 2 man flip over style house, 8" auger and a flasher..  Maybe when I go see my parents for christmas I can convience my dad that he needs some new toys and I can get a few "hand-me-downs"  LOL.  I'm going to also see if outdoor rec here on the base has any of the hard water fishing stuff for rent like they do regular fishing gear.

a little bit at a time.  Everytime I go to scheels or cabelas I try to pick up a few jigs or a new rod or something.  That way I am not trying to spend 100 bucks at a time.  5-10 bucks is easier to stomach than 100.  You can find some great deals on shacks on craigslist as well as augers and flashers from time to time.

Depending on what you are fishing for will dictate the jigs to get.  Since I am mainly a walleye/perch fisherman I like fatboys, genz bugs, buckshots, pimples, and macho's.

Looks like everyone pretty much covered it. I use Hali's about 90% of the time, tipped with red mags. Good luck!

you know growing up we used a Hali type jig with a moon glow jig above it 99% of the time for perch and caught alot of fish.  Since i came to SD and started ice fishing I haven't had a caught a single fish on those type of jigs.  Almost all my fish come on either a genz bug or a fat boy.  I can be pounding fish on a genz bug, switch over to a Hali type jig and not catch a thing.

I'd really like to find some Walleye but I don't think very many if any lakes have them around here.  So perch, crappie and panfish will have to do!  Atleast they all eat good though!

Cabelas in Rapid will be having an ice fishing event on Dec 11th, there will be plenty of people to talk to about different jig and techniques to use.  There will also be a couple of guys doing small seminars on the topic.  Might want to check it out if your not busy.

Hope to see you there.

Find the story I posted about my huge laker. That jig goes to all the trout lakes with me. Definitely need a couple Hali's in different sizes as well as colors just for options. When you need to get to the bottom quick like in a tourney... Hali's is where it's at!
