First ice, big gills and crappies... anyone else fish this awsome lake? It puked out on me after the first 2 weeks but I managed to pull some 11 inch slabs out of there. I need company though 'cause I want to be there this Friday or Saturday.

Only fished there a couple of times in the winter, but never had much luck. Some dink perch and gill. Done well there in the summer though. I swear there are no pike in that lake either
.
How thick is the ice out there? Didn't think it would be thick enough yet. Especially if you go near the private beach and the deep hole. You from around the area? I grew up in Farwell, my brothers all went to Clare though. I think one of them is going to be up this weekend, so he may go out if the ice is good.

It can be a tough lake to fish in the winter. Plenty of dink perch to go around. There are nice gills but they can be hard to find. Most of the spots that I tradiionally fished most likely do not have safe ice....grew up in that area as well.

I usually go north from the launch and out to some 25' foot holes. I invited a friend out there first ice and he came with 3 other guys. Everyone went home with at least one gill close to 11" and we all had around 15 fish 8 to 10". Honest to God truth! Stayed that good for first 3 times then totally puked out about 3 weeks later. Went past the point and caught a few perch then left the lake alone until... just about a week from now.

I'll be heading up tomorrow morning. I'll also call a friend in Lake Station to get an ice report because it's just too cold to swim. Company is always welcome! Bring a rope.

My bro said he wants to head out Saturday. Wanted to go to Stevenson but I guess the ice isn't good there yet. If the ice is good on 5 lakes I'll let him know and maybe he'll end up there on Saturday then.

Never went up to 5 Lakes but the Chappell Dam grocery up in Gladwin said Wiggins has 4 inches.
