Ready to hit the ice.
« on: Dec 07, 2010, 06:52 AM »
First trip planned is this coming Thursday.  Plan to hit Big Muskego for the first time on the hard water.  Checked it out on Sunday and ice was forming pretty nicely.  Will be going after the brute Northerns and some pan fish.  Perch have been showing up a lot.  Going to try around Boxhorn area,  not sure what to expect but great to hit the hard water.  Tight Lines Rich

Im taking my first trip on Saturday.
Hitting Nokomis up by Tomahawk.  Usually catch perch, gills, and Pike.
I've never done it this early in the year but have any of you guys used wigglers for early ice?

Hey Smbrickner:  I see you have a Humminbird flasher pic as part of your profile.  How do you like it?  I just picked up a ICE 55 a few weeks back and I'll be using it very soon.

I love it.
I have the 35 for 2 reasons....I am cheap and I don't fish deep water.
I experimented with the Marcums and Vexilars before I bought the Bird.  The thing I like best is that the screen is so much bigger than on any other manufacturers.  Best ice fishing tool out there imo.

Nice, I bought the 55 because I do fish deep water and I got a great price on it from Cabela's with a promo they were running, along with the points towards gear I accumulated.  I also checked out the vex's and marcum and like the bigger screen on the bird, along with the digital readout on mine.  I'll be trying it out for the first time this weekend!  Good luck fishing if ya get out!

HOW DEEP OF WATER DO YOU FISH? I GOT THE 35 TOO AND CAN CAN PICK UP FISH ON THE BOTTOM NO PROBLEM WHEN IM FISHING CLOSE TO 40 FEET  BUT I USSUALLY FISH SMALLER SHALLOWER LAKES LIKE 7-8 FEET AND WHEN IM FISHING THAT DEEP WATER MY BUDDY COULDNT PICK HIS JIG UP WITH HIS VEX

Not to highjack the post but if any flasher cant read a jig in 7-8 fow there has to be something wrong with the ducer, battery, or not set up right. I regularly use my marcum in 3-5 fow and my buddy uses his fl-8 right along side me and we both have no problem picking up our jigs.

First trip looks like its gonna be sunday for me. Got a meeting on saturday other wise id be out than but giving the ice a extra day wont hurt. Good luck everyone, whack some fish, and be safe.  8)

I fish all different depths of water.  The deepest point on my home lake is about 60 feet, but I wouldn't fish that deep unless my flasher tells me otherwise...  ;D  I like all the extra features the 55 has and I got it for nearly cheaper than a 35 costs with the discounts I got from Cabela's.  I like the digital display, and the higher watts, among several other nice features the 55 has.  I will finally be able to try it out this weekend as I hit the ice for the 1st time this year! 8)

Caught a whole lot of nothing.  My Bro and I were out 5 hours and not one tip-up.  I jigged up one 3 inch perch.  Water is very very cloudy.  This is not normal for this time of year, don't know what is going on with that.  Their were about 20 guys out.  Last years freeze out was more severe then being said by DNR.  Thursday fishing was a bust also.  Out for 4 hrs and nothing guess have to change lakes for a while.
