Using soft water fish finder on the ice
« on: Dec 06, 2010, 09:59 PM »
I have a humminbird 587ci for my boat. I have a humminbird ice35 for on the ice. My question is I would like to use the gps in the 587ci on the ice. Since I have most lakes I icefish on a sd card. The power cord from the ice35 fits the 587ci, and the transducer cable fits as well. However when I power up the 587ci on the screen, it reads tranducer not connected and goes into simulation mode. Is this because I am far away from anylake on the card, or does the proper transducer have to be connected for the GPS funtion to work. Thanks, I love this board.

I don't think the transducer will work from the Ice 35 on the 587ci. The transducer for the Ice 35 is a 19 degree and the 587ci reads a 20 degree cone I believe. I have a 597ci and I use it on ice with my 20 degree portable soft water transducer and it works great on the ice. It reads the jigs and fish great in sonar mode. My transducer is on a clamp I clamp to my portable shanty.  And the Navionics gps sd card works great too for spots I have marked.

I forgot you can get a portable 20 degree transducer for ice fishing for the 587ci from Humminbird.  It looks just like a 19 degree transducer on your Ice 35.

Your problem with your units is not the transducer angles but the fact that both units operate on different frequencies.
The Ice 35 operates on 240 & 455 kHz.
The 587ci operates on 83 & 200 kHz.
The transducers are not interchangeable.
An ice transducer for your 587ci is available.

Good Luck Rick

I think another option could be to buy the trolling motor transducer for the 587ci. Then get another mounting bracket for the bow of my boat and have the option to bring the unit up to the bow. Then assuming it will work through the ice, I will have a gps with lake info and a fishfinder in case I bring out a buddy who doesnt have one. Not to mention the 587ci will show me structure.

 Thanks alot guys.
