Artic kitty cat
« on: Nov 08, 2010, 08:05 AM »
Probably in the wrong section but it's a Vt specific question. If registered and insured is a little kitty cat legal for the kids to play with on lake Champ? It would beat a video game to keep them interested on a slow day.

not really sure on the law  don't think there is anything against it  pretty sure you have it reg and insured you should be good to go, don't think anyone would do anything even if it was not.

depends on your state regulations. A lot of times states will have a minimum age, and sometimes will have to take a snowmobile saftey class. In michigan its 12 years old and must take a class and be with someone who is 18 or older. I dont know where you are fishing, but some icefisherman may not take to kindly to your kids running around on the lake. If its just you guys it wouldnt matter much.
I love fishing. You put that line in the water and you don't know what's on the other end. Your imagination is under there. -Robert Altman

They're 4 & 6 not teens. lake champlain has plenty of room. I would be risking a tipup or two for sure:) Not sure about the age thing I started to search the DMV website and became frustrated.

Pretty sure they have to be 16 to legally ride, but not sure. Call your local Game Warden

I know it is 16 for vast trails but the lake is not vast. I think if registered and insured no one will bother you except the few people that you run in to that bother everyone I have run into that just lately.

I'm planning a trip  up to NEK and I was checking out the VT snowmobile regs and it said anyone born after 1983 needs to take the safety course and the fine for not taking it was $115 dollars !  :woot: :cookoo: There is a lot of regs to read thru and no one can clarify whether or not you need a vast sticker to ride the lakes ! A women that I talked to at VT DMV said you do and one of the bait shop guys said you don't ??? I have to find the number for the NEK warden and see what they say, I think they are the ones who enforce the regs.

You do not have to have vast to ride the lakes just registration and insurance. And from what I have heard about vast I wouldn't give them 2 cents. They are anti gun and don't want anyone on there trails if they are carrying a firearm to hunt or any other reason. New Hampshire the trails are nicer and its only 35 bucks.

Anti gun and knowone on there trails if they are carrying a firearm or to hunt?  Most vast trails are owned by private landowners who are opening up their land to the public; Or state/paper company land in northern vermont which has their own ideas about their land. Its not vast.... These clubs work very hard to get these trail systems and upkeep them. Most times there hands are tied.

That came from the local club they were handing out papers about it so people would be aware. Haven't heard anymore about it lately but I will look in to it. But if you need a vast sticker to ride a snowmobile on the lake then you should ask why you don't  need a vasa to ride atv's on the lake.
