Big Muskego
« on: Dec 16, 2010, 06:54 PM »
Been out 3 times now each time over 6 hrs on ice.  We caught 1 northern and a ton of 3-5inch perch on plastics.  Managed to catch 8 gills today and non bigger than 7 inches and they have to be 8 out there.  Fishing sucks big time right now.  Think winter kill last year has had some dramtic effects for this year.   Now they go and up size limit to 40 inches for Northerns..  Don't understand the reasons..  Be out tomorrow.  Tight line Rich

not sure if your walkin or not but we use to have a lotta fun on basses bay which is connected to big muskego. also we used to live on little muskego. not too many northerns there but bass and crappie, once in a while a walleye. stop at the taverns or the bait shop on 24 they could tell ya where the launches are.basses bay i fished about 27 years ago. little muskego about 18 years ago. i'm sure a lot has changed but i'de go back to little muskego again. didn't have to walk too far to get to our spot there. lemme know how you do!

The word is that Big Mo has a serious oxygen problem.  This problem started after the storms that completely changed the structure of the lake.

Will be good for awhile.  All the fresh water draining into the lake can only help the fish.  After this year will never catch a 40 inch fish here.  been fishing it for 25 years and have never caught one that big their.  DNR overreacts as usual.  Now all we have to do is wait for the next freeze out or oxygen depletion to happen again.  Tight lines Rich  Talked to Steve the DNR Warden and he said he measured one 3 years ago at 40 in.  But none bigger than 39 inches since then.

If you can get access to bass bay, the fishing has been excellent.  (bluegills)  Plenty of action, if you stay on the move.  I have been using a jig and a waxworm, color isn't as important as staying on fish IMHO.

Skittles - Are you accessing the bay from the channel?  Or does anybody know how the ice on the channel is after the warm-up and rain we had?

I have access to the bay from a friend that lives there.  There WAS about 9" of ice Thursday, not sure where it's at now.  I will ask him and report back.
