Aqua Vu RIP?
« on: Nov 15, 2010, 11:15 PM »
I was in Gander Mountain this evening talking to the guy in the fishing electronics area asking him about some of the new products and I asked him why they didn't have any Aqua Vu cameras and he told me that Aqua Vu was no more.  I mentioned that I had heard it changed hands he said that they have ceased altogether now.

Has anyone else heard this?

I'd heard about the changing hands part too. I guess who ever picked it up couldn't slay the bad rep monster that aqua vu created for themselves !

Hmmmm.... don't know.... they have new products in the Reed's catalogue don't they? I thought they did anyhow..... so if they do... it must be a real recent thing.... or the purchaser there at that Gander is just seeing the writing on the wall. Either way... very interesting.

hmm, bad rep, I have never had an issue with them. there cameras worked great, and when I did have an issue with a used camera I bought off ebay, they where great fixing it and getting it back to me.

I think the only issue Aqu-vu had was they never moved forward. They made a great line of cameras but did not move forward. Marcum came in and advanced the camera market, but aqu-vu never caught back up.

I did notice that the Vexilar camera is called the "Scout" which is an aquavu name?

Well if you go to Aqua View's website it looks like the salesman might be right.  Lots of dead links including the one titled "New 2010 viewing systems".

I sent them an email this morning asking them what is going on . If and when I get an answer I'll post it.

Based on what I am seeing I think that someone has bought up the remaining inventory and is selling it off for deep discounts.  I suspect an agreement to keep the demise of aqua vu quiet in order to get the remaining product sold.  Just guessing.

Aqua-Vu is still in business.  I don't know how they're going to ship this year.  They were bought by a company, Cross Lake Sales, and have been liquidating some of the old products on eBay but they do have 2010 models.  I'm taking a "wait and see" approach because I have yet to see the products I've ordered even after seeing the samples.

Here is their answering email.......

Hello Robert,
Thank you for the email.

We are the new owners of the Aqua Vu systems as of 10/08/09.  The first company (Nature Vision) went out of business just over 1 year ago.  We have and will continued to manufacture and produce the Aqua Vu systems.

Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.

Thank you,

Bass Pro in Calgary has stacks of "NEW" Aqua-vu 500 and 700 cameras in stock and on display. They also show up as "in stock" on their website.
