Otter Tail
« on: Feb 12, 2010, 05:52 PM »
I'm heading up from Iowa to Otter Tail with a few buddies next weekend. We spent 3 days on Mille Lacs a month ago just off a high pressure front - it was a tough go. We turned the ice on several of reefs into swiss chesse and must have been on to something as we ran into Roaches Snowbear a number of times. We worked our butts off ended up with a few fish but hoping to do better on Otter Tail this time around. I haven't read too many reports on O.T. and just curious to know if any one's been having any luck? Seemed like a silver 1/4 oz macho on a fresh minnow head was the hot set up on Mille Lacs. If anyone has some fresh tidbits they would be willing to share on O.T. I'd appreciate it.

Went up last Thursday - Saturday and hit it out the park. Started out in the hut the first day and didn't do extremely well. That night on day 1 a couple of the guys drilled a few holes 100 yards of the shack and got into a few eyes late. Day 2 we started outside of the shack at the same hole and got into a few eyes and landed a jumbo perch within the first hr. We moved the shack quick and didn't catch much the rest of the day. We were hoping the night bite picked up again and it just never materialized. The morning of day 3 was slow initially. After a slow first hour we drilled some holes 60 ft off the shack and limited out on eyes between the 4 of us yet that morning. Shoot we even got interviewed by Minnesota Public Television. Phenomenal fishing experience.  ;D

My family has a cabin on Ottertail and I have one on Rush, I have never fished either on the ice, but will be up in Dec. or Jan. depending on the ice conditions.  Ottertail has always been good to me in the summer months, so I am looking forward to pulling a few through the ice this year!!!  Any suggestions would be appreciated!  I usually find the eyes in 20-30 ft. over some saddles out on the s/w corner of ottertail, will they generally be in the same locations or deeper?

Talk with Gary @ Kens Tackle, or follow the fish house groups from the the old Corner Store area access. The other spot on the south west side to work is the area south of Amor park
I only work so that I can afford to fish, hunt, & farm
