Lowrance Green Box

Is there anyone using a "green box"  for ice fishing, or am I the only one?  I had to make my own transducer mount but it seems to work really well.  It's no fancy color flasher but it seems to get the job done.

I got one for a steal and thought I hit the jackpot. Then I used it. I could only see the bottom. No jigs. No fish. No structure, etc... The whirling sound was calming, but that's about it. I had a cool way to hold the transducer. thread it down a piece of PVC pipe. That kept it straight. A leveling bubble on top helped too. A lot of tinkering for little payback. Maybe I'm using it wrong. Now I'm going to use an Eagle flasher that my father-in-law gave me. My dream is to get a Vexilar, but I'm saving slowly.

I have been able to see fish and my jig without any problems.  I too would like a vexilar or something nicer, this one was given to me by my dad so it's more sentimental than anything.

I got a Vex last year, but until then was using a Humminbird flasher I got for $5 at a garage sale.  I tried all kinds of things to align the transducer, as having it aim straight down is extremely critical to be able to see your jig.  Finally I figured out how make an easy jig to float it in the water, & that $5 flasher worked excellent.

Check it out, & e-mail me with any questions:

Had the same green box, that served me well for over 25 years, it died quietly, beyond repair one night.  Sits proudly above my tying bench, I miss it.
