Not sure what happened to my last post I see it was removed for some reason??
I don't think I violated any rules by my post.

Anyways, I'm trying to find info on a tip-up my friend gave me years ago.
It was made in Russia and say SEPO SARATOV - Made in Russia in green on it.

I would like to try and get ahold of some more of these.
These are just like Beaver Dam tip-ups.

I have searched all over the internet and cannot find any info on them.  Do any other guys out there have any of these?  How do you like them if you do? Know where they can be found?
Thanks!
Ozifer

Did not see that such Tip-Ups sold in Russia. At us do not love such. These from Saratov the manufacturer with American probably tried to duplicate, but I do not think that they are in demand. Basically those use that on a photo:

These are factory models.

These are my homemade: http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=120635.220

Those do look like my Beaver Dams. What does the bottom of it look like? The spool and shaft area. (pic??)

It looks like the russian beaver dams have the ruler marked in inches. Not metric? Seems they were made for export. I would guess US dams came first as that the locals over there seem to prefer the above water spool. Just my guess. I do like how well the russian tipups pack for transport, real nice!

You are absolutely right ;) I do not understand what for to release spool in water? It can freeze in an ice.

The purpose is to prevent wet line from freezing to the spool. If underwater Line will not freeze. We check our holes throughout the day and clean any new ice in the hole. At same time check bait. Iyla I have found your thread on here very interesting. Thank you for showing us new things very cool.

And if to put 10 Tip-ups? It is difficultly so much holes to clean constantly :) The line on top spool too doesn't freeze. The cover closes a hole.

I fish lake champlain we use 15 tipups each. Yes on a cold day with 5 guys a few may ice in requiring a little chipping no big deal. Iyla is the line on your tipups braided? I find my line will freeze stiff in the time it takes me to play a Pike on a cold day. I do not understand how your line once wet will not freeze solid on the spool.

If that would be the case, I would think that they didn't last long stateside.  Beaver Dams were patented in 1950 by Arctic Fisherman, those look way to close to the Beaver Dams for Arctic fisherman to not have a case for patent infringement.  About the only differences I see are a spring under the trigger, and a bent wire line guide instead of a cast bronze guide.

Ozifer- I have 3 of those tip-ups. The first 2 I bought at a fishing show about 15 years ago and the 3rd I found on E-bay last year. I have used just about every tip-up made over the years and the first 3 that go in the water are the Russian made units. I also own about 10 Beaver Dams and carry 3 of them every time out. My original 2 have a red hammer and sickle sticker that says Made in Russia. The best thing about these tip-ups is that the shaft can be disassembled and regreased. I had to replace the flag on the one I got last year, but a new flag and a couple coats of polyurethane and its like brand new.
