Anyone know where to buy Spud Bars?
« on: Oct 22, 2010, 12:28 PM »
I wouldn't mind picking up a spud bar this year since I am thinking about heading out on early ice, to take better advantage of the season.

Anyone know where to get spud bars around Cornwall? I checked the Home Hardware and a few other places with no luck.

An suggestions are appreciated!

Do you have a princess auto nearby?  The local one here has a selection of styles .

I thought of them, but the nearest Princess Auto is either Ottawa or Montreal - both over an hour away. If I can't find something closer, though, I may make the trip.

One axehead, 4 feet of 1" black iron pipe and find someone with a welder.  I added a T to my handle so it wouldn't rocket down the hole if the ice is thin.

I'll have to re-check. We have a Canadian Tire right in Cornwall... Thanks!

I'll also second making one.
You can have it made to suit your needs.
Here's the one I made. About $10 invested IIRC. Of course it helps to have access to a welder.

Don,

I appreciate the offer; however, I'm gonna keep looking in Corwall. Worst case scenario, I'll head into Ottawa, but if I am driving that far anyways, I'd rather just pick one up at a store than inconvenience you!
