i switched my leaders from 15lbs to 8 last year and i think it helped the total number of bites i got, but for trout i use 4lb and pike i use 60-80lb floro

I use about 2 feet of 15lb Seagar mono...  just my personal preference.  Easy to tie and very strong.  Remember to stick with steel leaders when fishing for pike.

I used a lot of mono last year to try it out. Take it for what it's worth but here is what I did and my experiences.

I used #12 on all my trips in non-Pike ponds & #20 on 3/5 of my traps in many of my trips to Pike ponds. It makes you wary but I enjoy the challenge and looked forward to potential benefits.

Personally I did well - but you have to be very sensitive as to what you are doing. I failed to break a leader all season, however I remember letting my father take a runner for me on one occassion and he set the hook like an alligator leaping from the water to attack it's prey.      I think he almost fell backwards it broke so fast. (a #20)  Tie a ton of leaders up before hand and it gives you something to look forward to and you can change them out often as well.

I use 10lb floro. Seems to work very well even for the finiky salmon.

Fluoro handles the abrasion from the ice better.  12 lb works for me for a wide range of species (not pike) 18 - 24" long

Made the switch last year to 20# floro. Targeting mostly pike. I seem to get bit more than other guys I see on the ice. Like mentioned before you have to remember it isn't steel and to remind people you are fishing with of that too. Also having a bunch tied up before hand is key, after each fish I check for nicks in the line and if I find one I switch it out. I tied them about 6' long, when I get home I cut out the bad section of line and retie. Hope this helps.
Tight lines and safe fishing.

This guy knows what he is talking about!!!!!   You don't need 10,000 # mono. Just need to know how to use light line!
