Solar/Lunar Fishing Times
« on: Feb 27, 2010, 06:20 PM »
Just curious as to whether or not anyone pays attention to the lunar cycles and how well they do with fishing on LW. I have a trip planned in March, and according to the lunar tables it should be good fishing. Has any one paid attention to when they do well and what cycle the moon is in?

I find weather to be far (like vastly far) more important than the lunar cycles.  I have lunar cycles in my GPS and check them regularly and this year (some 15 treks out) and past years the difference has been unnoticeable in regards to good vs. bad days.

However, my GPS also has times of the day for every day of the year (good, better, best) and there has been some corelation between what it says and the fishing action.  But, and a it is a big but, this is merely based on my personal observations over a relatively short time frame so take it with a grain of salt.

Svengalli,

Thanks for the reply, but your answer leads to another question: What is the best weather conditions one could wish for on LW?

Thanks,
Ernie

Svengalli,

I usually prefer stable weather as it's usually more enjoyable from a personal level and fishing is good - great (sunny, cloudy don't matter when it's stable).  That being said, the period leading up to prolonged weather changes can be most productive for a short period of time.  Refer to the following chart:

For example the blizzard we experienced back in, I think January, shut the fish right down on LW for a week and a half.  I could find and mark them but be damned if a could land more than a couple and usually were dinks.  Then they slowly began to come back to normalcy.  I hope this helps.
