When I get a fish to come in with these baits,  I usually try to shake it and slowly raise it away  from the fish. (like it's trying to get away)

If this doesn't work,  I usually try a long pause.

Last resort is to have a second rod rigged and ready.
When you see the fish come in on your vexilar (or camera) reel up quick, and get the other rig down to the fish.

Hope this helps,

Wiener

Dirt:  For lakers I slowly begin reeling away from them and they usually hit me on the ascent when the fish are in an active feeding pattern.  Works equally as well with Salmo Chubby Darters (which I think have better action).  Also, I coat the Darter with some Berkley Powerbait sauce for attractant scent.

Good luck- Mike

They actually do a little more- they rattle and are cheaper.
