Thanks for the advise on ling.
« on: Mar 11, 2012, 12:34 AM »
Here is what I just happened to pull through the ice last night.  We had a great time and my 10 year old caught the biggest ling.  Lots of glow, lots of sucker meat, and lots of walking in circles squinting at the rods.  Oh, and by the way, make sure you put your bait up after cutting a piece off.  Failure to do this will result in a happy dog being scolded by a ticked off owner!  Other than that, it was a great night out on the ice.

A few pics for evidence sake are included.

1.  The total catch...  7 ling and 3 trout (1 released because it was too big ;) )  And no comments about the pink boots, I wear them proudly...  ;D

2.  The happy crew...

3.  Dawn breaking over the ice fishing camp...

Thank you all so much.  It was a wonderful time and the kids really did quite well.  What I find funny is that even when it is cold and nasty, they still love to run around, slide down the banks, and just be goofy.  Growing up fast and don't want to miss anything.

I really couldn't believe the dog!  She usually doesn't mess with anything and she has never messed with the fish, but she has become very opportunistic lately.  Could be cause I called her fat and told her she's going on a diet!   ;D

I really liked the Jiffy Pro 4!  After laying on the ice all night in the freezing cold with a touch of frost on it, she started up on pull #3!  I was cutting just over 20" of ice and punched around 20 holes on this trip.  Good auger.

My buddy took one where she made an appearance, but rather unwillingly...   :)

Bull Elk:  I was just lucky that I brought enough slabs of sucker meat along and she only got one slab out of the four!

Perch Man:  It is pretty fun and they eat good, but they sure are ugly!!!  Found out that night fishing is the way to go for these buggers.

Fishin w/ Britts:  Thanks my friend!  It was a great time.  You gonna get out anymore this year?

Nice catch. Always love to see another burbot fan puttin em down and especially seeing the young guns crank a few in. Caught 10 on Friday morning up here in Michigan's U.P., biggest was 14 pounds, I'm getting ever closer to the state record.
Good Fishin!!!

Maybe, just maybe might head out once more.  I put up a skunko last time so I'd hate to end a season with that stink on my hands!!
I'm sure there is still good ice at those higher elevations.

I would go for it!  There was 20 inches for us and even though there has been some warmer weather I bet it is still good.  Hope you haul em in!
