I saw one in person last year before they came out. It is a nice looking unit and from what I saw and have heard it really cuts thru the ice. The only thing I see is now you will have the expense of 4 blades to buy when they need replacement but with care they should last a long time.

I would buy the Lazer Express 8" 2 blade model  if I were looking for a new auger. The 3 blade Ultra is nothing but headaches. Whyfor they come out with a 4 blade auger? 33% more headaches maybe? Stick with Express.

Well, the 224 has to be better than the Ultra. Cause there is no worse, lol. Ultra has this screwdriver point that is supposed to start the cut. All it does is get clogged up with shavings and you have to chip them out. There is no 'keep cutting and they fall off'. You chip or you sit. I dont know anything about the 224. Stick with the 2 blade Express. Its a great auger. It aint broke so I dont know why they are fixing it.

I'd agree - the 2 blade lazermag is the auger to get.  My iceteam partner has an ultra, and my auger is just as fast as his.  I have an older one that doesn't have the pilot point, but I think that point is a good thing - I think the iceup problems on the ultra are more related to the blade positioning than that point, truthfully.  The 224 looks to be a better engineered design than the ultra, but why not let them work out the bugs first?  Plus, you are looking at buying 2 replacement blades vs. 4!!!!   another good auger is the eskimo shark - it uses a chainsaw motor and digs like a scared badger.

Check out the Nils Master.  It is lighter in weight, digs faster, and starts easier.  I have had one for 15 years, and would not use another.  Friends have others, but I usually end up digging their holes for them, for one reason or other.

whats the point in getting one. all i care about is an auger that is reliable, not heavy, wont tire me out, and partial fast.one that will last for many years and wont take alot to put into it. ie. what about when it comes time to chage blades, thats more money outa your wallet. Im not trying to discourage you into getting one, but think about these things before you go and spend $400-500. With 4 blades, who would want to take care of something like that. take that into consideration. ANyone that gets this auger, tell me how you like it. Im in the market for a power auger, and probaly wont get something like that, too much $$$, probaly get the mag 2000 or something.
Pain is temporary, trophies last forever
