Sunday at Quaddick
« on: Jan 26, 2010, 05:46 PM »
(Edit for a cat stepping on the keyboard!)
Hit Quaddick Sunday.

Here's my first keeper sized bass of the year (The one at Bigelow Saturday was just a little guy) I had a circle hook on my tip up and responded quickly but the silly pig still swallowed my hook  :P at least it didn't get stuck in the gills. So if anyone at Quaddick catches a bass with a red matzuo hook in its throat I caught him first.

I got a few flags, and even saw the sillhouette of a pickerel or maybe a small pike playing with a stealing my shiner. >:o It started getting dark so I tied some bells onto my flags so I knew when one of my traps was sprung- unfortunately I didn't know which one until I checked my third trap, lucky the fish was still there and didn't swallow my hook.
I pulled it up, the fish spat out the hook and landed back in the hole. I reached in with grizzly bear relexes and swatted the fish onto the ice! And he was an ugly cuss.

A bullhead, possibly the ugliest bullhead I've ever caught. That didn't keep me from frying him in hot oil though :D
After the bullhead my gloves and shoes were soaked and I was getting cold so I packed up and went home. I had a pretty good day.

Hit it today, even after all the rain their was still 6 1/2 inches on the middle pond where I usually fish,  I was told however the upper part of this pond is unsafe by another fisherman.  There were approximately 10 others fishing (that I saw)and an ATV out on the ice, so its still pretty safe. Fished from 12:30 till dark, had nine flags and landed five pickerel and one bass. Bass was 15" and largest pick was around 18". Not what i was looking for. Once again the Pike eluded me. Switching gears tomorrow, going to check out Mashapaug in the am.

I suck at targetting species, I never catch what I'm fishing for. So I just throw in whatever bait is good and am happy to catch anything.  ;D
