Keweenaw County Lakes
« on: Feb 05, 2010, 09:31 AM »
I've been thinking of trying out some lakes in Keweenaw County.  Does anyone have any specific info on any lakes up there?  I'm familiar with most lakes and the species present, but haven't spent enough time on these lakes to know how the bite is, and if it's worth a day trip.  Any info is appreciated  :)

Gratiot, Medora, Lac La Belle,....others??

Anyone know what species/size fish are in Lake Bailey??  I've heard rumors of good size pike and perch...?

Whatever happened to Gratiot?  I went there 2 years ago and did pretty well on walleyes through the ice on that sunken island in the middle out from the boat landing.

I’ve heard the same about Gratiot this winter.

Bailey has decent perch and a lot of hammerhandles.  I’ve managed pike on a tipup with smelt but have not yet located perch through the ice.  The lake is mostly very shallow so don’t be surprised to hit mud when you are through the ice.  If I were to give a ballpark starting point for fishing I’d say… from the boat launch head right and stay out from the docks approximately 25-50 yards.

I rarely see anyone on Medora.

Lake Fannyhoe gets some pressure.

I went to Bailey with my buddy last year after getting our limit in the Harbor.  We walked a-ways out and spudded two holes through about 2 feet of ice, set up our shack, started to jig and realized we were in about 1 foot of water  >:(....we proceeded to walk back to the car haha

Natorious, similar situation as you on bailey two years ago, but I wrecked my auger blades by hitting sand.  :'( Won't try that lake again until open water methinks.

My single winter trip to Lac La Belle, I managed to locate the 3" perch, but nothing else. Should have pike at least.
